Why I love Macro-Photography

Well I haven’t written in this blog since last semester. I missed sharing my current work and expieriences with the world so here’s my attempt to reconcile with myself. As a student…you don’t have a lot of time to do…really anything. My whole life basically consists of wake up, go to class, come home and sleep. Naps are cherished and if I find time to eat, it’s a good day. But one thing I try to do regularly is to look at current work of photographers, and learn all I can from it.
Props to my favorite photo of today, which can be found here.
Missed you all.

Week 10 – Producer/Final
•May 10, 2010 • Leave a CommentThis is the complete and final rendered product for Design For Media II. This video has been extremely time consuming, going in and editing each individual photos, narrowing down over 500+ photographs for the few minute(s) of video. However I wanted this video to look a certain way and that was the only way to achieve it.
Week 9 – Producer
•May 4, 2010 • Leave a CommentThis is the basically finished version of my video…minor things to finish.
Week 8 – Producer
•April 27, 2010 • Leave a CommentVideo is half done in respects to final tweaking. I still need to fix audio in the beginning, and put filters on photos to make them have the desired look that I want.
Week 7 – Producer
•April 21, 2010 • Leave a CommentI re-shot the first part of my video because I was not happy with the quality of the first video I shot. I also have not included music in this because I decided I want to wait until it is completely rendered before I present it with music.
Week 6 – Producer
•April 13, 2010 • Leave a CommentHere is a short clip of the work I will going to be doing for this video. This is NOT the final, this is just to give a visual to my viewers so I can put my words into images.
These images have not been edited yet, because I plan on re-shooting them. I am looking for feedback and general critiquing on the content thus far before I edit all the photos. I will also be speeding up the shots as they go, for some reason I can only get them down to about 2 seconds a piece right now.
Week 5 – Judge
•April 6, 2010 • Leave a CommentThoughts on why I believe my short deserves to be produced and other general comments:
I think this piece plays off of my love of photography, my interest in working with something that i’m not that familiar with [animation] and is an ambitious project for me right now. I could of chosen something easier, but I really did want to go above what my personal level of comfort was and make a video. I believe this stop photography short has content that is familiar to me, yet I want to make it interesting to the viewers as well.
Here are what some others have thought of my idea after asking my 3 questions:
1.What do you think in general of my idea?
2. What do you think of me using found objects?
3. What do you think my biggest challenge will be?
“I think the idea is sweet. It will be nice to see a contrast between taking a bunch of quick photos (snapshots) of an activity that is time consuming (developing a photo). I also think that the idea of using found objects instead of the actual items will be a nice thing to see since average people don’t know how dark room developing works. The “average person” might to able to relate to the video more while gaining a knowledge of the process of developing in the dark room. I think the biggest challenge will be to overcome the tediousness of taking multiple photographs for a single frame and making it cohesive. “- Chelsea W.
“The idea overall is creative and I think it will be interesting to see the finished product. I think it will take a lot of pictures, and I think it will take a while to develop the entire process and tweak it to how you want it but I think the end result will be worthwhile. I think the objects you are using will make it more interesting since they are found objects and not strictly darkroom materials. You will have to time every shot and figure out how many shots per second you will need for the final footage. Think about that. – Zendell M.
Obviously the thing that is going to be most challenging is the process of making the entire video one cohesive element and not making it too choppy. Therefore I will really have to work on making sure that each one of my photographs is timed just right so everything is smooth and flows together well as I am doing this process of making a photo.
Here are some photographs of my materials thus far. I am almost ready to shoot! I will be shooting with my Nikon D8O, a tripod, and cable release cord. The one photograph is of the food coloring I am going to use to dye the water different colors to differentiate between ‘chemical colors.’
